About Us
The best stories aren’t always planned—they’re found in the detours, the quiet spots, and the wagging tails along the way.
We’re Sue and Mark—a couple who never sit still for long. Give us a free weekend and we’re probably hooking up the caravan to the troopy, dogs in tow, and heading off to wherever the road takes us. Sometimes it’s a quick getaway, sometimes it’s weeks of exploring Australia’s wide-open beauty—and every now and then, we swap wheels for wings and head overseas.
This blog is where we share the places we go, the moments we love, and the little adventures (and misadventures) along the way. It’s part travel diary, part photo album, and part celebration of life on the move—and with our two furry travel buddies close behind, wherever possible.
Our Story
This year we celebrate 40 years of marriage—a journey filled with family, adventure, and plenty of stories worth sharing. We’ve raised three kids and now get to enjoy time with our four beautiful grandkids, all living close by. Whether it’s camping trips, beach days, backyard barbecues, or pizza nights around the wood-fired oven, family time is at the heart of it all.
Most of our lives have been spent in WA’s South West, but in 2000, we packed up the kids, a golden retriever, and a cat, and headed north to Burringurrah—a remote Aboriginal community just 40km from Mt Augustus. With Meekatharra over 300km away and Carnarvon 600km away, all on unsealed roads just for groceries, it was a world away from what we knew. Mark had just accepted his first teaching position, and Sue began working as a School Officer.
After four years in the red dust, we moved to Perenjori—still remote, but a little closer to the comforts of town life. We spent nine years there before returning to the South West to be closer to family and pursue career opportunities.
We then built a home one a 1 acre block in the hills of Roelands, Western Australia, with two dogs (Zeus & Xena), one cat (Molly), and Sue’s mum Mary—known as Nanna to the grandkids and Old-Nan to the great grandies.
Over the years, we’ve met many wonderful people—some of whom have become lifelong friends. Each chapter has added something to our story, and we’re glad to have had the experiences we’ve had along the way.
