Lauterbrunnen is a small village in the Lauterbrunnen valley located in the Jungfrau region of the Swiss Alps. Eight years ago, a work colleague recommended this place, and it's been on my bucket list ever since. This is where we stayed to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

Initially we had booked for two nights, but we needed to slow the pace a little so we extended our stay to four nights. We're glad we did, there's a lot to see in the Jungfrau region. Plus the view of the village, waterfall and mountains was very impressive.

Jungfraujoch, The Top of Europe, is the highest railway station in Europe at 3453m. It's costly to go all the way to the top, catching three different trains (the last train via tunnel through the Eiger mountain), but OMG it's worth every penny. The views of the Aletsch Glacier from the top are astounding. It's in snow all year due to the altitude.

Visited the surrounding villages of Grindewald, Murren, Wengen, and watched the skydivers land in Interlaken. The villages are quaint sitting above the Lauterbrunnen valley and they were all covered with snow. Access via gondola, cable car or cogwheel train. Much of them were closed due to in between seasons, but it

was amazing to wander through the streets and watch as the community prepare to open up again in the next few days. We still managed to find somewhere to sit and watch the world go by.
