Day 12 (Last day - fly to London)
Today we hand back the campervan and leave Iceland, heading to London for the next leg of our journey. Iceland has been wonderful. We've seen everything we wanted to see, including the northern lights and snow. Hopefully there's more of that to come. The scenery is indescribable. It's beautiful, majestic, picturesque and sometimes you feel as if you're on another planet. We felt like we were on the filmset of Star Trek in some locations. Amazing!! Unfortunately, our ice cavin

Day 11 (Ring Road - West)
The Blue Lagoon in the lava fields. Our last night camping in Iceland, we camped in Vogar, close to the car hire place and Keflavik airport for an easy transition the next day. Our biggest drive of the trip but again we had some 'WOW' moments, like driving through another 6km tunnel under the ocean. But undoubtedly the best was driving through the fresh lava fields. The Fagradalsfjall volcano had laid dormant for over 800 years until 2021 when it erupted. It's most recent eru

Day 10 (Ring Road - North)
Estrid We survived the night and decided to make a dash for the next camp 60km away. The weather was still coming and we hoped we could get to Hvammstangi before it got real dinkum. It was the scariest 60km drive ever. The wind buffeted the campervan to the point we had to stop and wait for it to ease. We visited the seal museum and had a delicious lunch at the restaurant upstairs. Then we hunkered down at the campsite and I updated this page. No sightseeing today, no pics.

Day 9 (Ring Road - North)
Our day full of adventure began visiting Grjótagjá , a lava cave, featuring a geothermal hot spring in its depths. It was also a film location for Game of Thrones. We then climbed the 90m high Hverfjall crater over a gruelling 600m steep hike. Views from the top of the internal crater structure and the surrounding 'out of this world' scenery were worth every step. It was cold and windy at the top. The weather was coming in again and we needed to get as far west as possible to

Day 8 (Ring Road - East)
Camped in a high up campground called Fossardalur. The next morning took the Oxi Pass (shortcut) up through the mountains. Beautiful scenery, but track was steep, narrow and very windy. Heaps of waterfalls everywhere you look. Then on to very desolate countryside to the Hverir geothermal spot full of mud and steaming sulfuric gas. Smells like rotten eggs. Absolutely amazing!! Finished our day at the Myvatn geothermal pools, the restaurant only, for coffee and cake. Didn't app
